How Shared Office Spaces Can Really Help Your Business?

Few years back, there was a time when start-up companies, freelancers and indie consultants were seen struggling for a professional work space. They were mostly seen working out of a small work space at home or were seen struggling for space at the local coffee shop. This acts like a support system and a network of people who you can instantly ask advice from anytime. Moreover, such shared office spaces are not only the hub for innovators and other inspiring independent business owners but also the focal point of interest for investors. A shared office space can help you with the required physical work space without being tied down to any long-term contracts. You only have to pay for the actual number of member seats that you opt for. You also have the flexibility of increasing or decreasing the number of seats according to your requirements.

Coworkers also have the facility of accessing important facilities that can help in their business growth such as conference rooms, air-conditioning, high-speed broadband and secretarial assistants.

5 Signs You Need A Coworking Space

Though working at home is a huge perk for some freelancers, some people actually find they work much better when they get up and go to an office and are surrounded by other people (even if they may not be directly working with them). That’s why the new startup Deskcamping may be some freelancer’s dream come true. The company was launched by London native Nick Couch in December. It allows city businesses and co-working spaces — many of which normally charge by the month — to rent out free desks to freelancers by the day or week.

The site is still in beta and has more than 100 New York users and 68 locations across Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan that have been listed since its inception. “If you have space and you bring in people, it has a massive impact on the culture,” Couch told The New York Post. There is an extensive questionnaire for the freelancers to fill out.  They are asked to provide specifics on their businesses and what their most conducive working space looks like (noise level, culture, space, etc.,) Some of the spaces Deskcamping hooks up freelancers with include Fueled Collective, Ensemble and Projective Space.

But New York isn’t the only place these coworking spaces are opening up., a coworking news site,  reports that the number of people using coworking spaces more than doubled between 2012 and 2013, and nearly 1,000 coworking spaces are now in operation across the U.S., with more expected. So what are the signs that you are better off finding one of these spaces and not working from home or in a coffee shop?

1. You aren’t getting any work done. This is probably the most obvious sign. If you are really struggling to be productive at home, then you must consider other options. Find yourself searching for a snack every 15 minutes in your kitchen? A coworking space might be a godsend for your productivity.

2. You crave human interaction. Even though you may have hated some of your former coworkers, there is something about being around other people when you are working hard that helps you get through the day. It’s also just nice to have people to complain to about, well, everything! But it’s also nice to just make small talk with people or discuss “Game of Thrones” plotlines. If you find yourself missing water cooler chat, and gchat isn’t cutting it for you, a coworking space might be a great choice.

3. Your home is distracting. Even if you may like working from home, there may be other people in it that prevent you from getting stuff done. Or, it just may not be a conducive work space. Perhaps there is construction nearby or your internet isn’t that reliable or your neighbors 1-year-old makes more noise than you’d like. A coworking space would help with these home distraction issues (plus the aforementioned every-15-minute-snack-hunt).

4. You need to meet with clients. Many of these office spaces have meeting rooms you can book or common areas. This is much better for a meeting than your studio apartment or trying to find a table at a crowded coffee shop.

5. You need a great space. Some people just need a great working space. They need a lot of light and beautiful windows. Not all coworking spaces are gorgeous but many of them are pretty cool looking. Research shows that loving where you work does make a difference in your productivity. Inc. put together a gorgeous list of 16 beautiful coworking space - we dare you not to be inspired to spruce up your space! Read more on Alleywatch

Who Can Benefit from Co-Working or Shared Offices?

With the dawn of the contemporary age in the corporate world today, co-working or shared offices have become a more common and well-known term. But of course there are certain types of people who benefit a lot more than others. Have a look at some of these entities who sow the most rewards from this option:

Many a times companies prefer to outsource their work based on short term projects to freelancers. Most freelancers have the flexibility to work at their home or at a bustling coffee shop. In both situations there can be a lot of distraction due to the distracted environment with kids at home or the loud noises of the crowd in a coffee shop. This is the exact reason why freelancers opt for co-working or shared offices. In this environment, you will be more focused on your work therefore more productive. Apart from this, you have the option to meet new people from the same field or different fields and build a strong network. You may never know when the next opportunity for a job pops up in your office.

Start-Up Companies

For start-up companies, discovering solutions to reduce costs is like celebrating the festival of Diwali early. All start-up companies usually begin with a tight budget, so considering the fact that buying an office space creates the biggest hole in their budget, shared offices are like a breath of fresh air. Their costs reduce to a large margin and they get the benefit of working alongside different companies from different sectors. Besides these companies get to market their products within their own office space! So you may never know if your next investor is sitting just two seats away from you. It’s eventually all about networking and building up your contacts for future business ideas.

Corporate Houses

When corporate companies which are well established already decide to opt for a co-working space, you know that it’s something worthy. For corporate companies, co-working helps you mingle with other new or established business and maintain a harmonious working environment. If you really open your eyes you will find potential business partners or energetic investors walking around everywhere. It’s a room full of opportunities in your own backyard! Not only that but your employees will be energized with the fresh faces all around that their productivity may just shoot up to a 100%.

Independent Consultants

As an independent consultant you get to choose your own clients and working hours to decide your company’s goals and direction. The only problem here is that you will mostly have to work out of home which results to many drawbacks such as not being able to meet clients in a professional environment. In a co-working space all those worries are put to rest with a conference room available right there for you. What’s even better is that you may just find a whole bunch of clientele right there in your small office space. You will also be able to build your network and profit from the sales you get out of the additional business.
